Tralee is the start and the finish, and it is the easiest town in Kerry to reach without a car. The rail station (Tralee Casement, code TRLEE) and the bus station share one site on John Joe Sheehy Road, Tralee V92 HX22, about half a kilometre from the town centre where the route begins, so a walker arriving by train steps off and walks.

Bus Eireann Expressway route 40 runs Waterford to Tralee bus station via Dungarvan, Youghal, Cork, Killarney and Kerry Airport, which is the one coach that solves Cork arrivals and airport arrivals in a single leg. Flying in, Kerry Airport (KIR) at Farranfore is much the closest: a bus terminus sits outside the terminal with services into the Bus Eireann network for Tralee and Killarney, tickets sold on board, plus a licensed taxi rank whose drivers the airport names and publishes numbers for. Cork (ORK) and Dublin (DUB) carry far more flights. From Shannon (SNN), Bus Eireann route 13 runs Limerick to Tralee via Listowel, though we did not read the Shannon to Limerick leg operator-direct. We could not read Irish Rail's station or route timetable pages at all (their site renders in the browser only), so check the Dublin and Cork rail connections on their own journey planner rather than on our word.
It is a loop, so the finish is the start and the return leg is the one already arranged. Everything leaves from the same Tralee station site. If the walk ends early, the two buses that put you back in Tralee are Bus Eireann 275 from Dingle, Annascaul or Camp on the southern side, and TFI Local Link 273 from Cloghane, Castlegregory or Camp on the northern side. From Dingle or Annascaul there is a second way out that does not touch Tralee at all: Local Link 276 runs through to Killarney, which is useful if the train home is the Killarney one or the car is parked there. One thing to strike out of the older route guides for the last two kilometres. Some of them suggest finishing the circuit on the restored steam railway from Blennerville into Tralee. There is no train to catch. The heritage line ran as a tourist attraction from 1993 through the early 2000s and has carried no passengers for many years: Kerry County Council was applying to Fáilte Ireland for funding to get it running again in 2016 and again in 2019, a councillor asked for a feasibility study in 2023, and the study that followed was due to produce a first draft at the end of July 2026, with consultants surveying the surviving track. No reopening date exists. The reason the suggestion survives is that third-party travel pages still describe the line as running occasional steam services, which one tour operator's page still said when we checked it on 31 July 2026. Walk the last 2.7 km.
The usual linear-trail headache does not arise. The route closes on itself at Tralee, so a car left there is waiting at the end. The concrete long-stay answer is the Tralee Train Station car park, run by APCOA on John Joe Sheehy Road beside the bus station: 115 spaces, location code 3224, paid through the APCOA Connect app, their website, the QR posters in the car park or the ticket machine in the station, entering the registration rather than displaying a ticket. Tariff seen 30 Jul 2026: 3.50 euro for a day, 9 euro for 7 days, 30 euro a month, 360 euro a year through the app, with the machine tariff a little higher at 4.50 euro a day and 11 euro a week. A ten-day walk therefore costs a week plus change, or take the month. No maximum stay is published and enforcement times are left to local signage, so confirm before leaving a car for longer than a month. Tralee's town-centre council car parks were not established as a long-stay option in this pass, so do not assume one. For fly-drive walkers, Kerry Airport's long term car park takes a car for weeks with published caps of about 70 euro for 8 days and 100 euro for 13 to 15 days (seen 30 Jul 2026), no pre-booking, ticket on entry and pay at a paystation in the terminal.
For a remote-feeling peninsula this is unusually well covered, but the cover is not even and the gaps are exactly where the hard days are. The southern side is strong: Bus Eireann 275 shadows the route through Blennerville, Curraheen, Knockglass More, Camp, Lougher, Annascaul and Lios Poil into Dingle, roughly ten journeys each way Monday to Saturday and six on Sunday, on a year-round timetable with no seasonal dates published. The western tip is covered by Local Link 277a and 277b between Dingle, Ventry, Ballyferriter and Dun Chaoin, Monday to Sunday, and by 268 out to Murreagh, Baile na nGall and Feohanagh, also Monday to Sunday. The northern side has Local Link 273 from Brandon and Cloghane through Stradbally, Castlegregory, Aughacasla and Camp to Blennerville and Tralee, Monday to Sunday. The catch on the 273 is that only a couple of journeys a day run the whole way out to Cloghane and Brandon; the rest turn at Castlegregory. The genuinely thin places are the Maharees (Fahamore and Kilshannig), served only by door-to-door services on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the Brandon to Masatiompan crossing itself, where the extra Local Link runs (R49 on Mondays and Wednesdays, S222 Tuesdays, S223 Thursdays) are once or twice a week and need a booking. On that stretch assume the escape is a phone call to a taxi, not a bus.
