Day-by-day trail itinerary
Hadrian's Wall Path: 5-day itinerary
Carlisle, reached early in this section, is the last city and full-service stop on the trail, cathedral, shops, rail. West of it the character flips completely: flat, quiet walking along the Eden and then the Solway estuary marshes, with big skies and birdlife replacing wall archaeology as the main interest. Villages thin out fast beyond Burgh by Sands. Two stretches sit at sea level and flood at high tide, the second of them right at the end, check tide times before setting off for the last few kilometres into Bowness-on-Solway, the trail's quiet, unceremonious finish.
