Cotswold Way

A long, gradual loss of height off the high Cotswolds toward Bath, broken by one last real climb up to the Battle of Lansdown site and Sir Bevil Grenville's monument. Past that the trail loses height steadily and quietly until Beckford's Tower marks the edge of the city. The final kilometres turn properly urban, parks, Georgian terraces, pavement, a sharp change of character after days of fields and escarpment, ending at the carved marker set into the pavement outside Bath Abbey. Services multiply the moment the city starts; nothing comparable exists earlier in the section.
