Corfu Trail accommodation: where to stay and how to plan it

What makes accommodation planning different here

There is no hut, refuge or hostel network on the Corfu Trail and no central booking system. You sleep in rooms, studios, apartments and small family hotels in villages and coastal resorts, mostly self-catering, mostly owner-run, with a taverna rather than a hotel kitchen for the evening meal. The one fact that decides a Corfu Trail plan is the season. The route's beds are holiday stock, so a large majority open around May and close in October, and outside that window the question is not which bed is nicest but whether anything at the stop is open at all. Verified examples from operators' own pages: Belle Helene at Agios Georgios Pagon runs 'beginning of May to end of October', Villa KaliMeera at Marathias publishes 9 May to 24 October 2026, Villa Petalutha above Spartilas prices 1 May to 31 October, and Camping Paleokastritsa prices only May, June, July, August, September and October. Reopening is uneven at the front of the season and closing is uneven at the back, which is why the per-place season field matters more here than anywhere else. The Merchant's House at Old Perithia is the one place we established that is open all year. Very few Greek village operators publish an opening season, a price or a one-night policy anywhere on their site, so an operator-direct phone number is the useful contact and a booking-site link is close to worthless: ring and ask for the dates. WhatsApp or Viber on the mobile number is often offered and answered. The trail creator's own planner keeps a list of accommodation and will send it on request to [email protected], with the honest caveat that she has not tested any of it. Where a walker actually gets stuck is inland and north, not on the resort stages. The official planner marks limited accommodation at Spartera, Lefkimmi, Halikounas, Paramonas, Stavros, Agii Deka, Sinarades, Liapades, Sokraki, Spartilas, Old Perithia and Almiros, and lists no accommodation at all at Agros, which on our chainage is the stretch from about km 115 to km 122. For those stops it directs walkers off route: Benitses from Stavros, a bus from Rekini to Roda, a bus from Agros to Arillas or Agios Stefanos, and a walk down to Barbati or Ipsos from Spartilas. Between Agios Georgios Pagon (km 111) and Sokraki (km 130) the only bed we could establish on the line of the route is Sokraki Villas. Above Spartilas the mapped stock is whole-house weekly villa lets rather than rooms, and at Old Perithia there is one guesthouse. Book those stops before you book anything on the coast. Two commercial operators publish where they put their nights, and the pattern is worth reading as a map of where beds actually are: Asprokavos, Santa Barbara at Marathias, Paramonas, Benitses, Pelekas, Liapades, Agios Georgios Pagon, then Spartilas or a bus north. Neither of them overnights at Agios Matthaios, Strongili, Vatos, Agros or Kopsochilades, which matches what the map shows: those stops carry one property or none. Spartilas is servable after all, because Hotel Corfu Secret at Agios Markos sits on the route about a kilometre before the village and publishes rates with breakfast. Almost nowhere on this trail sells a single bed rather than a whole room; the exception is the hostel at Agios Gordios, which has shared rooms of two to eight beds. Camping is not a plan on this trail. The trail creator's own planner states that 'only one organised camp site exists on the course of the Trail, at Paleokastritsa', which on our chainage is km 100.1, and there is no second one. Free camping is illegal in Greece: Law 5170/2025, in force since 20 January 2025, prohibits pitching tents and overnight camping outside licensed campsites, including on beaches and the beach hinterland, in forests, in archaeological zones, in national parks and in Natura 2000 areas, with a fine of 300 EUR per person or vehicle and the possibility of a short prison sentence, and heavier penalties inside Natura 2000. The trail creator's planner adds that walkers who are discreet, respect property and cause no damage 'should not encounter any problems', which is a description of tolerance and not permission, and Corfu's coast and north are exactly the places where the law is enforced. Never light a fire. In practice, plan on beds and treat a tent as emergency kit only. Book each place yourself, direct, by phone or email. There is no shared reservation system, no package requirement and no single operator behind the route. Several tour companies sell the trail as a guided or self-guided holiday with luggage transfers and a fixed programme of hotels, and one of them publishes its 2026 season as running from 16 April to between 15 and 20 October, which is a fair proxy for when the trail's accommodation is generally trading. Independent walkers should book ahead rather than turning up: the coastal stops share their beds with holidaymakers in July and August, and the inland stops have so few rooms that one full house closes the stage. A German walker's write-up records a one-night booking at Agios Georgios being refused as too short, which is worth knowing before assuming a single night is available anywhere. Greek accommodation tax and the climate resilience levy are charged on top of the room rate and are usually collected on arrival, sometimes in cash: Belle Helene publishes 1.50 EUR per room per night, and Blue Princess at Liapades says its climate crisis resilience tax 'must be paid in cash upon arrival'. Budget a few euro a night for it. Rates seen in July 2026 put a double room on the coastal stages in a rough band of 30 to 80 EUR a night, with the inland and mountain places quoted only on request. Where a mapped website turns out to be a German or British holiday-letting agency rather than the property, treat it as a lead: the season and the one-night answer usually only come out of a phone call to the owner. One trap in the stop names on this island, worth knowing if you are cross-checking these records against a map or a booking site. Three place names on the route are used twice, 80 to 90 km apart: Agios Georgios is both the southern resort at Argyrades around km 30 and Agios Georgios Pagon in the north west around km 111, Strongili is both the inland village at km 56 and a hamlet above Acharavi at km 149, and Kastellani appears at km 69 and again at km 119. KTEL sells them as different routes, B5 for the southern Agios Georgios and A7 for the northern one, so a ticket bought on the name alone can put you at the wrong end of the island. Every record here carries a chainage; trust that rather than the name.
