Local food worth trying
Tsigareli is Corfiot wild greens cooked with onion, garlic, olive oil and chilli; Old Perithia's operator describes it without animal ingredients. Also ask for ladera such as fasolakia, gigantes, briam or gemista, then check for cheese or meat stock. Nistisimo fasting food is useful but can still include seafood and honey, so name those exclusions.
What to buy
Use Lefkimmi and Agios Georgios South in the southern third, Pelekas in the middle, Paleokastritsa or Agios Georgios North before the inland north, and Acharavi near the finish. Kazianis confirms branches at Agios Mattheos and Acharavi. Carry bread, tomatoes, olives, tahini, cooked beans, dried fruit and halva. Village minimarkets may close for several afternoon hours.
Good places on the trail
Kavos: Roussos is an older mixed-review lead, not a dependable vegan meal. Lefkimmi: La Veranda has several recent vegan diner reports. The central inland villages publish little dietary information, so ask for the day's ladera and keep a carried dinner. Paleokastritsa: older strong vegan reports for the Apollon were followed by reports that dishes were unavailable after a management change; telephone before relying on it. Old Perithia: the village taverna operator publishes tsigareli, and O Foros has a secondary lead for greens and briam. Outside summer the tavernas may open only at weekends. Acharavi: Faros publishes a clearly headed vegan section with vegetable souvlaki, green beans and mushroom kokkinisto. The finish at Agios Spyridon has shops and tavernas but no confirmed vegan operator menu in the current source set.
Trail treats
Choose fruit, halva whose label excludes honey, or a sorbet confirmed dairy-free. Corfu Beer's EPOS contains honey, so the local name alone is not enough.
Where to restock
Northbound, shop in Lefkimmi, Agios Georgios South, Pelekas, Paleokastritsa and Agios Georgios North. Carry extra over the inland north to Old Perithia, especially outside summer. Southbound, load at Acharavi and use the same towns in reverse. A mapped shop is a lead, so buy before the gap rather than after it.
Things that may not be vegan
Nistisimo can include shellfish, octopus and honey. Check feta, yoghurt, mayonnaise or egg in vegetable dishes, meat stock in rice, butter on bread and honey in drinks.
